If you have paid attention to Social Media the last couple days then you have noticed that your whole feed has become photos of the people you follow as their older selves.
This FaceApp that has become viral overnight takes a portrait photo and then uses their software and artificial intelligence to change it, either younger or older, your gender and more.
It has been found that with this application, when you give access to your camera and photo gallery, it also comes with it the ability to modify, reproduce and publish any photo that you processed through their application. They can then use these photos as long as they see fit.
This camera and phone accessibility goes much farther than just the application. They can take your name, username, etc. used on the app and use it themselves.
Furthermore, it is believed that they can then access your camera and possible "secretly record" someone. Then using whatever they find to build a case and if you are in the very controlled Russia, this could mean prosecution.
As more and more devices and applications use Face recognition to unlock either the device themself or the application, then your face more than ever needs to be protected.
Keep your phone yours. Be weary of what you are downloading and don't forgo the fine print.
In the meantime, make sure people can't listen in by keeping your phone in a Faraday Bag while not in use.
