It has been brought up before that applications, companies, and marketing agencies are using your location data to target you for specific advertising. Many of these apps have location and data information that can be supposedly be turned off. But can they?
But what if these applications are now working around these rules and are sending your phones personal identifier and advertising ID as data to third-parties, violating the privacy policies of the Google Play store. Although it is possible to reset your phones advertising ID, these numbers that are being sent are attached to your serial number, IMEI, MAC address, etc, that can only be fully reset with a factory phone reset. Which means that unless you are resetting your phone constantly, this data is continually attached to your phone.
The Apple App Store and Google Play store have taken steps to prevent this from happening, but they haven't stopped all of it.
One finding said that around 17,000 Apps on the Google Play store are still sending this data:
On your iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch - Go to Settings >> Privacy >> Advertising >> Toggle "Limit Ad Tracking" to On. You can also reset your Advertising Identifier in this section to unlink any previous data associated with your ID.
On Android:
Android phones - Generally, on an Android gadget, you can go to Settings >> Google >> Ads >> Toggle "Opt out of Ads Personalization" to On. Similar to iOS gadgets you can also reset your gadget's advertising ID in this page.
